Burn Business: Bob’s Locks

We’re helping out firms in our community by featuring their local businesses. First up is Bob from Bob’s Locks.

What does your business do?

Primarily a locksmith (available 24/7 for emergencies) based in Stirling but covering the entire Forth Valley and beyond. We supply complete security solutions for individuals and business.

From our shop in Stirling’s Upper Craigs we also sell:

  • Locks, cylinders and padlocks
  • Key cutting and key replacements
  • Engraving
  • Laser cutting
  • Knife sharpening
  • Number plates
  • Trophies and awards
  • Watch straps and batteries

How has COVID-19 affected your business?

For us it was sad having to lock our own door of the shop for an unknown amount of time. Even my locksmith skills can’t help in getting that door open any sooner.

We have maintained an emergency locksmithing service – following social distancing guidelines – in trying to do our bit.

How can we best help your business right now?

What we have done is taken the time to rejuvenate ourselves and our premises with renovation works now allowed to start.

Our new website should be live at the end of the month with an online store allowing us to provide our engraving service and more digitally.

We’re finding ways to diversity and have new CO2 laser machines on order. We’re planning to create our own PPE masks for the local community. So we hope to able to do our bit in this pandemic and come back stronger than before.

For now, you can follow us on social media (links below) to keep up with our business.

What’s your connection to Bannockburn RFC?

Bannockburn RFC is now my local club after a 15 year break from rugby it was still in my blood. If you don’t play rugby in the Borders you don’t do much.

I could hear the games from my house, so I said to my wife I’ll go back for a game to get it out of my system. That was three years ago! One broken nose, broken ribs and many other aches and pains I’m still going strong… ish!

Bob on match day

I’m enjoying playing with a good set of lads in some good old fashioned fun. I was going to retire again but for some daft reason they made me club captain! It’s been a real treasure playing out the golden years of my rugby career at Bannockburn.

Favourite Burn player?

Mark Alexander. His physicality and no-nonsense attitude reminds me of myself as a young buck. I’ve enjoyed being able to help him channel that energy in a positive way.
