Men VS Rosyth – And so the Season has begun!

On a glorious sunny day, the Bannockburn Men were getting ready to battle the Rosyth Sharks on the first game of the season.

The game commenced with both sides ready to fight for the first try of the season, and after a long hard struggle, our very own captain, Tommy Coyle, crossed the try line in the corner to score.

After narrowly missing the conversion, superstar kicker, Oli Mole slotted a penalty between the posts bringing our lead to 8-0.

Rosyth battled back hard and five minutes later it was 8-7 after a great try by the Sharks.

The final try of the half was scored by Joe Wright after a great play from the team, leaving us with a 15-7 lead going into half time.

The second half, although one-sided on the score board, both teams played well with great chances from both sides. A total of 5 tries (3 converted) from Bannockburn (Thomas Henry, Olle Mole, David Ramsay and Kieron Penny (2))

With the score at full time at 46-7, the Bannockburn Men will be happy to start the season with an amazing win. Thanks to Rosyth Sharks for a very competitive game and good luck with the rest of your season!

Men’s Team- And so it begins again…

The 2023/24 season is finally upon us, with this year promising to be a great one! After the clubs first ever Bowl final appearance the Team is aiming to go one step further and secure silverware.

With another reconstruction of the leagues Bannockburn are in an 8 team league, facing evryone both home and away. This season starts this Saturday, the 10th of September, at home to Rosyth Sharks. A repeat of the victory at the beginning of last season would certainly be welcome!

This is then followed by games against old foes Waid Academy, Bo’ness, Grangemouth 2s, Perthshire 2s, Strathmore 2s and Crieff & Strathearn. Bannockburn have beaten all these teams recently so none of the match ups should hold any fear.

The squad will be sporting a new jersey this season. With huge thanks to sponsors Number Nineteen Barbers, Molly Malones, McCormack Carpets and Rugbytots Stirling & Clacks. We also welcome Strathcarron Hospice as our charity, lots more to come about that in the future. We’re always on the lookout for additional sponsors, please contact the club if you’re interested in supporting the club.

Director of Rugby, Jimmy Samuels, had the following to say

‘As we stand on the precipice of the Men’s season, we reflect on a successful 22/23 season and look ahead with excitement.

Last season saw us reach the final of the Caledonia Bowl Competition and pick up some good results in the league. The pre-season has been great, playing some highly contested friendlies and bringing in some new players and welcoming back some that have been away.

I am excited about what the men’s team can do this year. They have reset after some structural changes last season and are ready to build on the foundations laid by Davie, his coaching team and Tommy as captain.

The team is shaping up to do great things in 23/24 and I look forward to watching them kick off on 9 Sep 2023 at home against Rosyth Sharks.’

Meanwhile men’s head coach, David Grainey, said the following

‘We are excited for the upcoming season. It’s great to finally be back and looking forward to getting into regular games especially with a tough fixture at home this coming weekend against strong opposition in Rosyth.’

We have been back as a squad with preseason training now for a while and the team are glad to welcome a few new faces to the squad along with the experience and familiar faces of our Bannockburn old guard.

We had some great highlights last season, making it to the bowl final, however this year we would like to set our sights higher and look to win some silverware.
Training is going well and our coaching pool has also increased with the inclusion of both Maciek and Iain who bring in different ideas and suggestions which allow us to try new things and expand our creativity when devising new structures for both our attack and defence.
